Phil Mickelson enjoying his ride as he closes in on win
Move overside fireside Phil chats, Phil Mickelson is closing in on a PGA Tour Champions victory, and he’s having himself a good time doing so in the process.
How do we know this? Well, tickle me purple, call me Walter, and thank you for asking. He literally said as much.
“I’m really enjoying the competition, I’m enjoying playing here,” Phil Mickelson said after his round on Tuesday. “I’m enjoying the carts, really nice. So I’m having a fun time, but I want to play a little bit sharper tomorrow than I did today.”
Now eligible for the senior tour, having turned still-fine-at-fifty in June, Phil Mickelson is having himself a nice outing. With (then) only 18 holes left to play, he had a four-stroke lead following some nifty club work. Mickelson followed up his first-round 61 with seven-under 64 on Tuesday at the PGA Tour Champions’ Charles Schwab Series at Ozark National.
For those unaware how golf works, it is the rare sport where negative points are better points. Strange, yes, but so is this idea that there’s a 19th hole where people go to get bombed after finishing a round of golf — not because of the booze, you see, but since it’s funny.
Nevertheless, good for Phil Mickelson, as the PGA Tour Champions are likely happy to have him around and playing well.
