With the 2022 MLB trade deadline less than a month away, teams are looking into upgrades before playoff races really heat up. The New York Yankees, owners of the best record in the majors, still want to get better. One of their biggest targets is Pittsburgh Pirates star Bryan Reynolds.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees really want the 27-year-old Reynolds but would also be content with Andrew Benintendi, now of the Kansas City Royals and formerly of the Boston Red Sox. Four other teams — the Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners — are also interested in Reynolds.

The Yankees (and many others) covet Pittsburgh’s Bryan Reynolds, but will consider Andrew Benintendi. Ian Happ would fit, but like Reynolds, he may stay put.

The Marlins, Phillies, Padres and Mariners also like Reynolds.

Reynolds would be a great addition to any team. The center fielder and 2021 All-Star has an OPS of .800 this season with 15 home runs. He has very solid speed and plate discipline and has been a good defender in past years. The Pirates signed him to an extension in April but given that the team is still in a rebuild, opposing teams are keeping an eye on him.

Pittsburgh is 34049 at the moment and are focusing on the development of young players like Ke'Bryan Hayes, Oneil Cruz and Jack Suwinski. Sooner or later, they will have to face the facts and realize that they should trade the players they can for more good prospects.

Each of the teams listed by Heyman could use either another good outfielder. The Phillies need an upgrade at center field specifically and the Yankees, who were linked to him previously, would be wise to let Reynolds patrol center and move Judge back to right field.
