Detroit Pistons big man Christian Wood has been a stellar contributor off the bench this season, but the 24-year-old has now suffered a knee injury that will force him to miss at least one week of action:
Wood exited Wednesday night's matchup against the Toronto Raptors after just six minutes of action. The 6-foot-10 power forward appeared to have banged knees during the game, and it initially seemed like he had suffered a considerable injury. Thankfully, it appears to be nothing more than a minor knock, and Wood should be able to return sooner rather than later.
In his previous two outings prior to the injury, Wood averaged 25.1 minutes of play, putting up 11.5 points (on 50.0 percent shooting) and 9.0 rebounds per game. It is worth noting, however, that Pistons star Blake Griffin was a minor contributor in both contests (he logged just 15 minutes against the Houston Rockets on Saturday and sat out Monday night's matchup against the Washington Wizards) due to a knee issue, and with the six-time All-Star returning to action on Wednesday, it seems that Wood's minutes were due to come down anyway.
On the season, Wood is averaging just 15.4 minutes per contest off the bench. Nonetheless, he has been a solid contributor in his limited playing time. The former UNLV standout is putting up per-36 numbers of 21.2 points (on 61.7 percent shooting), 11.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals, and 2.0 blocks.
