Free agent point guard Derrick Rose is set to meet with the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, with both sides reportedly motivated to work on a two-year deal, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Pistons have already indicated that one of their priorities in free agency is adding a point guard, which is why their interest in signing Rose makes sense. The former league MVP is coming off an impressive bounce-back season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he averaged 18 points and 4.3 assists per game.

Detroit will need someone who can help All-Star forward Blake Griffin on the offensive end, something that Rose can definitely do. Moreover, one can argue that he is an upgrade over Reggie Jackson, the team's starting point guard.

There were initial reports about Rose potentially returning to the Chicago Bulls — the team that drafted him back in 2008. However, both sides didn't seem to have interest in reuniting, despite the fact that their relationship has been repaired.

It is unclear if Rose will be meeting with any other team besides the Pistons, especially since the Phoenix Suns are reportedly coveting him as well. But if the 11-year veteran ends up in Detroit, he will have an opportunity to help the team make it to the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Nobody will ever know what could've happened to Rose's career if it wasn't plagued by injuries, but the former All-Star doesn't want to dwell on the past anymore. He is coming off an amazing 2018-19 campaign highlighted by a 50-point performance, and he just wants to build on that momentum as he prepares for the tail-end of his career.
