The Detroit Pistons have reached a decision on the future of their young backup big man, Eric Moreland, as they will reportedly guarantee his contract for the remainder of the season, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.

The 26-year-old Oregon State product may only be receiving limited playing time this year, but he has shown a lot of upside which intrigued the team. He will now be given more time to prove his worth and that he belongs to play at the highest level. Through 34 games, he is averaging 1.4 points, on 46.7 shooting from the field, to go along with 3.6 rebounds in 12.1 minutes. He started for the first time in his career on Saturday against the Houston Rockets, helping the Pistons win, 108-101. He recorded eight points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Moreland went undrafted back in 2014 before getting signed by the Sacramento Kings. He spent two seasons with them while receiving multiple assignments in the G-League with the Reno Bighorns. Last season, he played well for the Canton Charge, earning an invite to the Pistons' training camp and ultimately making their lineup.

With his contract now guaranteed, Moreland will have the chance to prove that he deserves his roster spot and that he belongs to play in the NBA. His strong outing on Saturday could also result to more playing time for him in their upcoming games especially if he continues to produce solid numbers for the team. If he does, he may receive a lucrative offer in the future which will allow him to stay in the league longer.
