Despite only having relative success in the past couple of seasons, the Detroit Pistons are still looking to make the core of Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson work.

Pistons executive Ed Stefanski said that right now, Detroit is sticking on building around the trio, who led them to the playoffs last season only to be swept by the Milwaukee Bucks in the opening round.

The last successful postseason run that came in “Motor City” was back in 2007-08 when the Pistons reached the Eastern Conference Finals before ultimately coming up short against the Boston Celtics. Since then, Detroit has finished above the .500 mark just once while finishing at an even 41-41 in 2018-19.

In 2017-18, the Pistons finished the regular season at 39-43, finishing ninth in the East and failing to make the playoffs. Detroit has made the postseason twice in the last four campaigns. However, the other time they made it — in the 2015-16 season – they also got swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.

It remains to be seen as to whether or not the Pistons are able to attract a free agent or two this postseason to help turn things around in a hurry. However, they have to believe that the core of Griffin, Drummond and Jackson is their saving grace.
