The Detroit Pistons have agreed to a two-way contract with guard Isaiah Whitehead, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Whitehead had been playing over in Russia before coming to terms with the Pistons.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at Seton Hall University, was originally selected by the Utah Jazz in the second round (42nd pick overall) of the 2016 NBA Draft. However, he was immediately traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

He played in 73 games and made 26 starts during his rookie campaign, averaging 7.4 points, 2.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds over 22.5 minutes per game while shooting 40.2 percent from the floor, 29.5 percent from three-point range and 80.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Then, the following year, Whitehead's role shrunk considerably, as he played in just 16 contests with the Nets, registering 6.3 points across 11.3 minutes a night while making 46.5 percent of his field-goal attempts, 38.9 percent of his long-distance tries and 68.4 percent of his foul shots.

Whitehead spent a lot of time with Brooklyn's G-League team, the Long Island Nets, last season and was then ultimately traded to the Denver Nuggets in a July trade that sent Kenneth Faried and a 2019 first-round draft pick to the Nets.

He was then waived by the Nuggets four days after being acquired.

Whitehead played two years at Seton Hall, and while he did average 18.2 points per game during his sophomore campaign and 15.8 points per game over his collegiate career, he was never an efficient scorer, shooting just 37.5 percent from the field and recording a true shooting percentage of 50 percent in 56 career games with the Pirates.
