The Detroit Pistons are emerging as the favorite to sign Derrick Rose, according to Frank Isola of The Athletic.

Rose becomes an unrestricted free agent on Sunday. Pistons vice chairman Arn Tellem has a close relationship with Rose. Tellem used to be Rose's agent.

This past season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Rose averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 48.2 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from beyond the arc and 85.6 percent from the free-throw line. He scored 20-plus points 24 times and 30-plus points 4 times, including that 50-point game on Halloween against the Utah Jazz.

Reggie Jackson is the Pistons' current starting point guard. He'll make a whopping $18,086,957 in 2019-20, the final year of his contract. Detroit made the playoffs this past season, but got swept by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round. All-Star big man Blake Griffin wasn't 100 percent and underwent knee surgery after the playoffs ended.

Kyrie Irving and Derrick Rose were the only point guards this past season to average at least 18.0 points per game, shoot at least 48.0 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from beyond the arc and have a PER of at least 19.0. Rose is a guy who can give the Pistons 20 points off the bench in a hurry if he ends up joining the team.
