Eliminated from playoff contention, the Detroit Pistons had planned to make the finishing roster adjustments of the season, releasing injured guard Beno Udrih and signing free agent Lorenzo Brown — but the sides faced an impasse, as the deadline to release Udrih was Sunday, per league rules, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Udrih sustained a sprained right knee on Sunday and head coach Stan Van Gundy was not optimistic on him playing either of the last two games of the season.

In efforts to evaluate more talent, the front office chose to release him, but waited a few hours too long and now will be stuck with Udrih on the roster for the remainder of the season.

The 34-year-old point guard got to Detroit on a last minute call as well, as the Pistons had given their 15th and last roster spot to hometown talent Ray McCallum out of training camp, but released him less than two hours before the deadline to submit rosters, signing Udrih to a veteran's minimum contract for the season.

Brown had also been cut earlier in training camp, making his living with the Grand Rapids Drive of the D-League, averaging 23.6 points, 7.7. rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game through 11 games after having signed with Russian and Chinese teams earlier in the season.
