The Las Vegas Raiders picked who many thought was the best player on the board in tight end Brock Bowers with their first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and star wide receiver Davante Adams is super high on him, he went into why when explaining the “BM” nickname that he gave him, meaning Business Man.

“He is all business on the field,” Davante Adams said, via Vic Tafur of The Athletic. “He doesn't care about nothing else… He hasn't laughed at one of my jokes yet. … I have seen the tape. I know what he is about. He is a big, strong dude that is driven. Sky's the limit.”

The Raiders were in the running for a quarterback in this year's draft, but the six prospects who were viewed as possibilities to go in the first round were selected in the first 12 picks. Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye went in the first three picks and were unattainable to the Raiders. The Atlanta Falcons surprised with the selection of Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8, a quarterback that the Raiders were linked to. The Minnesota Vikings moved up to No. 10 to select JJ McCarthy, while the Denver Broncos took Bo Nix with the No. 12 pick. The Raiders conceivably could have traded up to get one of these quarterbacks, but ultimately decided against it.

Instead, Brock Bowers from Georgia was the pick. He was by far the top rated tight end in the class by nearly every draft analyst, and he brings another weapon to Las Vegas' offense with Adams as well as second year tight end Michael Mayer. The quarterback situation remains unanswered, however.

Raiders' 2024 season outlook

The Raiders have some good pieces in place with Adams, Bowers and Michael Mayer, among others. There is talent there, but the franchise quarterback is not on the roster, as Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell are set to battle for the starting job this season. If one of those two could adequately game manage, Las Vegas could be competitive, but the long-term outlook at the position would still be in question.

In a division that features Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs and Justin Herbert with the Los Angeles Chargers, it will take a top quarterback to be able to compete with those teams year in and year out. The Broncos hope that Nix is that guy for them, but it is unknown. The Raiders do not have that young quarterback on the roster as of yet. That will be a task for the 2025 offseason. For now, it will be interesting to see how the pieces all fit together for the Raiders on offense, and how Bowers fares in his rookie season.
