Las Vegas Raiders starting quarterback Derek Carr was forced off the field during Thursday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The 29-year-old exited during the first quarter of the contest in what was later officially diagnosed as a “significant” groin injury.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport provides more clarity on the matter:

Yikes. That clearly does not sound good for Carr, who sustained a non-contact injury in what turned out to be a nail-biter between the Raiders and the Chargers. The former Fresno State standout was seen to be in some considerable pain right after the play, and the fact that he was unable to return does not bode well for his status moving forward.

As the reports above states, Las Vegas has two more regular season games remaining, and based on the apparent severity of Carr's injury, he could have very well played his last game of the campaign for the Raiders on Thursday. Las Vegas' loss to the Chargers served as a huge blow to their playoff hopes this season. Their now virtually out of the playoff hunt, which further dampens Carr's hope to make a return this season.

In Carr's place, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden brought on Marcus Mariota, who himself was pretty impressive against the Chargers. Mariota completed 17-of-28 passes for 266 yards, while also logging a touchdown and one interception. At this point, it looks like the 27-year-old could be in line for a couple of spot starts for the Raiders as they close out their season.
