Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is undoubtedly one of the top defensive players in all of football. As a result, it's no surprise to see the five-time First-Team All-Pro selection be the odds on favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year next season per BetMGM.
Donald is currently +750 to win the award which is ahead of players like Khalil Mack (+1000), Nick Bosa (+1300), last year's winner Stephon Gilmore (+1500) and T.J. Watt (+1500).
The 13th pick in the 2014 Draft, Donald has been dominant since day one. The 6-foot-1, 280-pound pass rusher had the Pro Bowl every season he has been in the league and has recorded double-digit sacks in four of his six NFL seasons.
The former Pitt star won the award in 2018 after recording 59 tackles, 25 tackles for a loss, a league-high 20.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. Donald's season was so impressive that he became only the fourth player to record 20 or more sacks in a season since 2008.
However, after a monstrous 2018, Donald had a bit of a down year in 2019. Regardless, a “down year” for Donald still means 48 tackles, 20 tackles for a loss and 12.5 sacks.
As a team, the Rams also experienced a bit of a down year this past season after reaching the Super Bowl the season prior. Los Angeles finished the season 9-7 and missed the playoffs for the first time under head coach Sean McVay.
Despite Donald's continued dominance, the Rams defense also finished 17th in the NFL in points allowed per game with 22.8 and in the middle of the league in terms of total sacks.
