Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald has informed the team that he will not be attending the start of organized team activities on Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Pro-Bowl DT Aaron Donald has informed the Rams that he will not be attending the teams’ Organized Team Activities that start today, per team official.

Donald, who has yet to take part in any of the team’s voluntary offseason program, is still awaiting his new contract which is expected to make him the highest-paid defensive player in the entire league. The Rams are set to hold their mandatory minicamp on June 12-14.

Rams general manager Les Snead has maintained that the team remains focused on getting Donald’s extension done this offseason. The team was unable to come to terms on a deal last offseason, when Donald also decided to sit out part of the team’s offseason program, including training camp.

Obviously, the Rams would like to get a deal done as quickly as possible and preferably before training camp. After making several big moves this offseason, particularly on defense, it would be ideal that the reigning Defensive Player of the Year was around to establish a chemistry with his new teammates like Ndamukong Suh.

However, it’s likely that Donald simply opts to sit out the entire offseason if he doesn’t get his new deal and needs to miss time in order to get himself ready for the season like he did last year. The Rams still have time to prevent that from happening again, but the clock is ticking.
