The Los Angeles Rams are making some changes to the coaching staff, and that involves adding an offensive coordinator. With the team considering bringing someone in, Kevin O'Connell is considered to be a ‘strong candidate' for the offensive coordinator job.

Since the Rams hired Sean McVay in 2017, they haven't had someone who's held the offensive coordinator title. But after a disappointing season on offense, McVay is open to bringing in an assistant to aid with the Rams' offense.

O'Connell is a former NFL quarterback who played in the NFL from 2008-2012. He was drafted in the third round by the New England Patriots. The San Diego State alumn began his coaching career when he took the job to become the quarterbacks coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2015.

After a season with the San Francisco 49ers as an offensive assistant in 2016, O'Connell joined the Washington Redskins in 2017. At first, he was named as the quarterbacks coach in the year that McVay became the head coach in Los Angeles.

But this season, O'Connell became Washington's offensive coordinator at only 34-years-old. Due to Ron Rivera being hired, O'Connell wasn't brought back for the upcoming season.

The Redskins had the 31st ranked offense in terms of yards and the 32nd ranked offense in scoring. Even though those are downtrodden numbers, O'Connell is considered an up-and-coming assistant in the NFL and a potential fit for the Rams.

Of course, O'Connell had Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins as his quarterbacks in 2019.

Besides the Rams, the Philadelphia Eagles and Browns are considering O'Connell as an offensive coordinator. Joining McVay's coaching staff could be a beneficial move for the young offensive assistant. Just ask Zac Taylor and Matt LaFleur what working with McVay can do for your coaching career.
