Last September, the Los Angeles Rams made Jared Goff the richest quarterback in NFL history, signing him to a four-year, $134 million contract that featured $110 million in guaranteed money.
Now, the Rams are restructuring his contract.
According to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com, Los Angeles has reworked Goff's deal in order to clear space to sign defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson and linebacker Leonard Floyd.
Adam Schefter of ESPN notes that LA opened up $7 million in cap room by restructuring his contract.
Goff is coming off of a very disappointing 2019 campaign in which he threw for 4,638 yards, 22 touchdowns and 16 interceptions while completing 62.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 86.5.
The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of California, was originally selected by the Rams with the first overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Goff made seven starts during his rookie year and was dreadful, finishing with 1,089 yards, five touchdowns and seven picks while completing just 54.6 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 63.6.
Then, in his second season, Goff broke out, throwing for 3,804 yards, 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions, completing 62.1 percent of his passes and recording a passer rating of 100.5 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
Goff was then a fringe MVP candidate for much of 2018, totaling 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 picks while logging a completion percentage of 64.9 percent and a passer rating of 101.1, making another Pro Bowl. Most importantly, Goff led Los Angeles to a Super Bowl appearance.
The Rams went 9-7 this past season and missed the playoffs.
