Los Angeles Rams cornerback Marcus Peters had some choice words for Sean Payton after the New Orleans Saints coach said that he liked the matchup that Thomas had during the Saints victory in the first meeting this season.

Peters was asked about coach Payton on Wednesday with the two getting ready to square off again and this time Peters said he has nothing but respect for him.

“I see y’all are trying to make it be something that it’s not, man,” Peters said, via video from Christopher Dabe of the Times-Picayune transcribed by Pro Football Talk. “Just all the respect to Sean Payton and what he does. During a game, things happen. But I just love the fact that he’s a competitor. When I was coming out of the draft and stuff, he was the same way — fiery, energy when I was meeting with him and things like that. It wasn’t nothing to be disrespectful or anything like that. It was just I was pissed off I didn’t have the game I wanted to have. Coming into this week, you know, you’ve got to be excited about these rematches and things like that, but we’re going to give them all the respect that we can because they’re the No. 1 seed for a reason.”

Payton also went out and downplayed the whole beef with Peters as he said he too has “great respect” for the Rams corner.

But as much as Peters and Payton are trying to downplay the comments now, there is no downplaying how important of a matchup it is. The first time these two teams played Thomas had 12 receptions for 211 yards and two touchdowns. If he has similar success on Sunday, it's going to be hard for the Rams to come out with a victory.
