10 years ago, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford had a front-row seat to watch a Hall of Fame wide receiver break an impressive record. In Week 18, he could see one standout wideout go on to shatter this exact record.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson set the record for the most receiving yards in a season back in the 2012 campaign, as he notched 1,964 receiving yards in 16 games played. Heading into the Rams’ regular season finale against the San Francisco 49ers, Cooper Kupp is 136 receiving yards away from breaking Johnson’s historic record.

Overall, Stafford has been fortunate enough to have played with two of the most potent route-runners over the past two decades not only because of their world-class skill sets, but also due to their team-first mindsets, which he touched on during a recent press conference.

“To me just makes me feel lucky that I got to play with two great players in different eras,” Stafford said. “What Calvin did was really special, and what Cooper has been able to do is really special.

“Both those guys would tell you they want to win all the games that they play in and if they can have more receiving yards, it usually probably helps us win a game. There's no question about that. Both those guys are similar in their own selfishness and their desire for the team to do well.”

Johnson was lauded often for his sheer unselfishness during his run with the Lions, while a multitude of Rams players and coaches sure can attest to Stafford’s viewpoint on Kupp.

The Rams could not only see history in Week 18 with Kupp possibly reaching this feat, but they may celebrate yet another NFC West title under head coach Sean McVay. A win for the Rams over the 49ers would clinch them the division title.
