Since taking over as head coach of the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, Sean McVay has consistently fielded one of the best teams and coaching staffs in the NFL. The coaching staff has been so brilliant that three of McVay's former assistants are now head coaches and all of them had winning seasons in 2021.
Those coaches are the Green Bay Packers' Matt LaFleur, the Los Angeles Chargers' Brandon Staley, and the Cincinnati Bengals' Zac Taylor.
Now, due in part to the success of the aforementioned coaches, the Denver Broncos have reached out to the Rams in an effort to interview current Los Angeles offensive coordinator, Kevin O'Connell, according to Pro Football Talk and James Palmer of the NFL Network. He was added to the growing list that Denver is making in an attempt to cast as wide of a net as possible as they attempt to find their next leader of the franchise.

Although O'Connell does not call plays on the Rams and has never done so in the NFL, that has not stopped teams like the Tennessee Titans (who originally poached LaFleur from the Rams to be their offensive coordinator before Green Bay hired him as head coach one year later) and Cincinnati, (who took Taylor after not ever even being an NFL offensive coordinator) from going hard and fast at anyone associated with McVay's success with the Rams.
Although O'Connell seems like a long-shot for the head coaching gig, the fact that he does not call plays in Los Angeles means that he could still end up as the offensive coordinator in Denver or somewhere else. Although going from being one team's offensive coordinator to another's may seem like a lateral move that the Rams could block; it would be considered a promotion if the team offered O'Connell a chance to call plays.
