The New York Rangers are playing like the best team in hockey right now. However, even the best teams have off nights. That was the case on Monday with the Blueshirts, as they fell to the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 5-1. New York goalie Igor Shesterkin was certainly displeased with the result, as well.

As the final horn sounded, Shesterkin headed straight for the tunnel. Once the door opened, he attempted to slam his stick against the boards. He appeared to have only nicked the glass, however. The Blueshirts' puck-stopper slammed his stick on the ice, leaving it behind as he went up the tunnel.

Shesterkin had a busy night during the game. Buffalo peppered him with 39 shots on goal, five of which found their way past the former Vezina Trophy winner. Sabres forward Alex Tuch scored twice for Buffalo in the win on Monday night.

Entering the third period, New York only found themselves down by two. And forward Mika Zibanejad scored to cut the deficit in half. However, the Sabres put their foot on the gas pedal. They scored three goals in the third, including one in the final seconds, to skate away victorious.

The Rangers are also concerned with forward Kaapo Kakko. New York's 22-year-old forward left Monday night's game after a scary collision along the boards in the second period. He did not return to the game.

Monday's loss marked the second loss at the friendly confines of Madison Square Garden for New York. The Blueshirts are in action again on Wednesday when they play host to the resurgent Detroit Red Wings.
