Jacob deGrom was the Texas Rangers big ticket free agent this offseason. As the Rangers gear up for Opening Day, deGrom had an opportunity to show fans why Texas' investment was worth it.

deGrom made his spring training debut for the Rangers on Sunday. He pitched three innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just two hits and striking out four. deGrom's three inning shut out had fans gushing over his Rangers' debut.

The Rangers signed deGrom to a five-year, $185 million contract. Texas focused on the pitching staff this offseason, bringing in names such as Nathan Eovaldi and Andrew Heaney. However, deGrom's addition gives the Rangers a true ace. As he begins his Rangers' tenure, deGrom is expected to lead the pitching rotation and be a key factor towards the team's success.

Jacob deGrom joins the Rangers after spending the first nine years of his MLB career with the New York Mets. He has started 209 games at the major league level. In that time, deGrom has pitched to a 82-57 record with a 2.52 ERA and a 1,607/303 K/BB ratio.

deGrom entered the MLB hot, winning the NL Rookie of the Year in 2014. He has gone on to see greater success, earning four All Star appearances and two NL Cy Young awards.

However, injuries have held deGrom back. He hasn't appeared in more than 15 games since 2019. The Rangers took a major gamble on deGrom, hoping he would be more Cy Young than injury prone starter.

While it's one just one spring training start, deGrom has certainly gotten off on the right foot. His outing showed he can still dominate the MLB at any time. The Rangers will hope deGrom will continue pitching well – and staying healthy – into Opening Day and beyond.
