The Rangers make the trip to Philadelphia to face the Phillies! The Rangers have been inconsistent this season, while the Phillies have been red-hot and enter this series on a winning streak. These two teams have been different with the Phillies being one of the best teams in the MLB, while the Rangers are trying to get things going still. Our MLB odds series has our Rangers-Phillies prediction, odds, and pick for Wednesday.

The Rangers have been inconsistent since winning the World Series last year and they have a 24-24. They have a top 10 batting average in the MLB as a team and their pitching has taken a dip and is now in the bottom half of the MLB. This offense is led by sluggers Adolis Garcia, Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, and Josh Smith. This offense is loaded and was the biggest reason why the Rangers won it all last year. Their pitching needs to start playing better because they have struggled recently. Nathan Eovaldi has taken center stage on the mound this season, but Jon Gray has been very good so far this season. The Rangers need to play better, but they have a massive matchup against the Phillies.

The Phillies have been playing great this season with a 34-14 record and they have won six out of their last seven games and then three straight games. The bats have been playing great and are a top-five unit in the MLB. Their pitching has been great and has been a top-five unit in the MLB. On offense, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, JT Realmuto, Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh, Nick Castellanos, and Alec Bohm have been the big standouts on a great offense. The pitching of Ranger Suarez, Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sanchez, and Spencer Turnbull have made up a very good pitching staff. The Phillies have been a force this season and need to keep winning in a loaded NL.

Why The Rangers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Rangers are starting Andrew Heaney to start on the mound and he has a 0-5 record, a 4.43 ERA, and a 1.23 WHIP. Through 44.2 innings this season, he has allowed 26 runs on 44 hits with 11 walks and 44 strikeouts. Heaney has started in nine games and the Rangers are 1-8 this season. Heaney has been decent on the mound, but the Rangers have not helped him that much on the mound to bail him out. This is a tough matchup against the Phillies behind the plate with their bats because they have been one of the best offenses in the MLB.

The Rangers' offense has been nothing short of great to start the season. They are ninth in team batting average at .247 after finishing last season as one of the best in the MLB with a .263 batting average. The offense is led by Adolis Garcia, Marcus Semien, and Josh Smith in most batting categories. Smith leads the way in batting average at .284 and in OBP at .373. Garcia leads the way in home runs at 11 and in RBI at 35. Semien then leads the way in total hits at 55. The Rangers' offense can match up with anyone in the MLB and they get a decent matchup against a struggling Taijuan Walker on the mound for the Phillies.

Why The Phillies Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Phillies are starting Taijuan Walker on the mound where he has a 3-0 record, a 4.91 ERA, and a 1.41 WHIP. Through 22 innings, Sanchez has allowed 12 runs on 25 hits with six walks and 16 strikeouts. The Phillies are 3-1 in the four games that he's started in this season. In his last start, he struggled and pitched in 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout in a Phillies loss. Walker has struggled this season, but the Phillies have still played well in a few games despite some of his play. He gets a tough matchup against very good Rangers offense behind the plate.

The offense for the Phillies has been great this season. The Phillies are fifth in the MLB in team batting average at .258 after finishing last season with a .256 batting average. Alec Bohm, Bryce Harper, and Bryson Stott lead the way for the Phillies behind the plate. Bohm leads the way in batting average at .330, in RBI at 42, and in hits at 58. Then, Harper leads the way in home runs at 10 and Stott leads the way in OBP at .393. The Phillies offense gets a good matchup against Heaney on the mound for the Rangers.

Final Rangers-Phillies Prediction & Pick

The Rangers need a big win and this is the perfect spot to get one against a team as red-hot as the Phillies. The Phillies have been great on the mound, but Walker has been the outlier so far. Heaney has not been amazing either for the Rangers. These two teams are very similar behind the plate too. Bank on the Rangers in this game to cover and potentially win because of how much they need it.
