DeMar DeRozan wants to be DeBest.

The Toronto Raptors swingman isn’t taking the offseason lightly, as he is dead serious in leading Toronto into bringing an NBA championship to Canada. To that end, DeRozan is looking for ways to elevate his already impressive game, beginning with identifying some areas he thinks he could further improve on. DeRozan said that much to ESPN’s Cari Champion during an appearance on SportsCenter.

“Continue to grow as a player, as a leader, and keep pushing the envelope. Understand my flaws from the year previously and come back better this year.”

In case he’s open to hear suggestions, DeMar DeRozan might find it worthwhile to spend more time on his defense. DeRozan is already a skilled offensive player, able to get buckets through several means — he averaged 27.3 points on 44.6 percent shooting from the floor last season — but his defense remains suspect. Per 82games.com, opponents scored 3.2 points more per 48 possessions when he’s on the floor than when he’s on the bench back in 2016-17.

Apart from that, DeRozan could be interested in solving his shooting woes in the postseason, as he’s just a career 40.3 percent shooter past the regular season.

This isn’t just about DeMar DeRozan wanting to become better. This is also about him setting a good example for his teammates, who should be thinking twice about going on a lengthy summer vacation while their All-Star teammate is sweating it out at the gym.
