Fred VanVleet put up 30 points and 11 assists, and the Toronto Raptors beat the Brooklyn Nets on Monday to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven first-round series.
Fred VanVleet is the first Raptors player with a 30-point, 10-assist game in the playoffs. Not bad for a guy who went undrafted.
The Raptors are expected to easily defeat the Nets in the first round. Brooklyn is playing without Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie, Wilson Chandler and Taurean Prince.
VanVleet becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He's going to get paid handsomely, as he's one of the most consistent scorers and playmakers in the league. Since Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry is getting older and has one-year left on his contract, don't be surprised if Toronto locks up VanVleet as soon as free agency starts.
The Raptors will look to take a 2-0 series lead over the Nets on Wednesday.
