The Toronto Raptors could make an organic promotion within the organization, as they recently interviewed Jerry Stackhouse in Chicago last week, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Stackhouse coached the Raptors 905, the D-League affiliate which won a championship in his first season as a head coach in 2016-17 and lost in the D-League Finals this season.

The former NBA player boasts a beefy 70-30 record in two seasons as the coach of the Raptors 905 and could make the breakthrough to the NBA this season, taking over a roster with plenty of cogs that can make a deep run in the postseason.

Assistants Rex Kalamian and Nick Nurse, who were part of Dwane Casey's coaching staff, are already receiving considerations among other NBA openings, and with some of the key names already off the board — Stackhouse could become a nice source of familiarity within the Raptors family to get the job.

An 18-year veteran of the league, Stack averaged 16.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game during his career — including a career-best season with the Detroit Pistons, finishing with the highest point output in the league and second in the scoring race with 29.8 points per game in 2000-01.

Stackhouse last played in the league during the 2012-13 season and is seen as a well-valued asset for the Raptors 905, having reached a standard of excellence during the last two seasons after becoming part of the expansion in 2015-16.
