Toronto Raptors star small forward Kawhi Leonard won't play Sunday night against the Los Angeles Lakers due to left foot soreness.

Kawhi Leonard suffered a jammed foot in Friday’s victory against the Phoenix Suns. This means we won't get to see the two-time Defensive Player of the Year go up against Lakers superstar LeBron James.

In his first season with the Raptors, Kawhi Leonard has gotten off to a terrific start. He played in only nine games last season for the San Antonio Spurs due to a quadriceps injury,  so there were concerns if he can return to his old, dominant self and make an immediate impact for the Raptors.

Through seven games, however, Kawhi Leonard looks like he didn't miss almost a year. The 27-year-old is averaging 26.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting an efficient 50.4 percent from the field.

The Raptors enter their matchup against the Lakers with a record of 8-1.

Leonard could decline his 2019-20 player option and become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019. There have been speculations that the 27-year-old star wants to play in Los Angeles, — either for the Lakers or Clippers — so his visit to Staples Center was highly anticipated by the fans and media.
