The Toronto Raptors lost their opening playoff contest against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. Beyond the Game 1 defeat, concerns also mounted on the injury status of rookie sensation Scottie Barnes.

Raptors fans held their collective breath on Saturday night as Scottie Barnes' foot was accidentally stepped on by Sixers center Joel Embiid. The 20-year-old had to be helped off the floor with an apparent ankle injury.

Barnes had to be supported off the floor as he hobbled into the locker room.

After the game, Raptors head coach Nick Nurse was asked about the status of Scottie Barnes. The initial X-rays reportedly came back negative but there is still further testing to be done to verify if the injury is minor enough to play on.

Via Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun:

Nick Nurse says X-Rays negative on Scottie Barnes' ankle. Will undergo further imaging tomorrow. Thad Young's thumb not broken either. Good early news for Raptors.

But the injury update from Nick Nurse is positive whatever way you swing it. Without any serious damage upon initial diagnosis, it seems more than likely that Barnes will be back to bolster the Raptors' chances at coming back and winning the series.
