It appears to be the end of the road for three-time NBA champion Patrick McCaw and the Toronto Raptors. McCaw will try to continue his pro career with another NBA team.
On Thursday, the Raptors officially waived the 25-year-old McCaw after nearly two whole seasons with the team (per Shams Charania of The Athletic).
McCaw hasn't really done much in his short time in Toronto. Since being picked up by the Raptors from the waiver wire early in 2019, the Missouri native has fallen off the depth chart and has sat out the majority of the games he's been able to suit up for the Raptors. This season, he's only been able to play for a handful of games and was virtually invisible in those games.
He was part of the 2018-2019 Raptors squad that won the title against his former team, the Golden State Warriors where he also won his first two NBA rings. McCaw ended up making history that year as just the third player in NBA history to win three consecutive titles with different teams.
Apart from all the silverware, McCaw's time in the NBA has been rather bleak. McCaw showed promise in his early days in the NBA but hasn't really performed much since. He was impactful for the Warriors as a key piece off the bench and ended up even starting a few games but his career slowly spiraled out since leaving the Bay Area back in 2018.
The upside is, McCaw is just 25 and has a ton of experience already under his belt. If a team can pick him up from the waivers and the guard somehow fits that program, then it won't be surprising if we see the three-time champion suit up for a contending team.
