The Baltimore Ravens are hoping to secure a contract extension for star quarterback Lamar Jackson in the near future, but owner Steve Bisciotti revealed there's been one significant holdup in talks. According to ESPN's Jamison Henley, Bisciotti claims that there's been a lack of urgency on Jackson's part to get a new deal done, and he thinks he knows why. Bisciotti said that he thinks Jackson “doesn't think he's worthy” describing the situation as being “unique as hell.”

Bisciotti thinks that Jackson is “so obsessed with winning a Super Bowl” that the Ravens owner believes the young quarterback doesn't deem himself to be worthy of a lucrative contract extension. “I think he wants that to say, ‘Now, I deserve to be on the top,” Bisciotti told Henley.

That's certainly a unique reason not to put pen to paper on a new deal. While most players would be eager to get some long-term security in the form of a new contract, Jackson is reportedly seeking to earn every penny he makes.

John Harbaugh said Monday that he was confident a contract extension would happen between the Ravens and Jackson, and while Bisciotti's comments suggest they're a bit farther off than fans would like, it doesn't seem as if Jackson is truly considering leaving the team.

Jackson is set to hit unrestricted free agency in 2023. He's earning $23.01 million this season in Baltimore under the fifth-year option in his deal. This is the final year of his rookie contract, so the Ravens will be hoping to get him locked down sooner rather than later.
