Baltimore Ravens defensive back Jimmy Smith is participating in individual drills on Wednesday for the first time since injuring his knee in the season opener according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

This would be a big boost for a secondary that has been banged up pretty consistently since the start of the season. Second-year safety DeShon Elliott is likely out of the season after suffering a knee injury against the Cincinnati Bengals so getting Smith back is coming at a crucial team.

“I do have bad news with DeShon Elliott, it looks like he’s going to be out for the year, unfortunately,” Harbaugh said via NBC Sports. “Just way worse than we thought it was going to be, doctors thought after the game. That’s preliminary, but it sounded like they were pretty confident that it wasn’t good.

The team also made a trade for Marcus Peters to try and boost the secondary and he should be able to come in right away and be an impact player. The Ravens plan to have Peters practice Thursday and Friday and then play on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Maurice Canady and Anthony Averett have both struggled as starting cornerbacks so they knew they needed to bring in some reinforcements.

For Smith, it's unclear how long he will be out or if the plan is to bring him back on Sunday. If he was to go on Sunday it's hard to imagine he would play the full game. It might be best to just have him play a few snaps and ease him back into the role.

If Smith is healthy now, any production he can bring to the team would be a huge boost.
