The New York Jets' offseason hasn't exactly gone smoothly. Following a lavish spending spree in free agency and a crucial draft that included the team selecting third overall, the Jets abruptly parted ways with general manager Mike Maccagnan. Needless to say, timing behind the dismissal of New York's chief personnel decision-maker was extremely odd. Why let Maccagnan make so many franchise-altering choices before firing him just as the offseason's player-movement period slowed to a crawl?

The good news for Jets fans: As Baltimore Ravens general manager sees it, New York did very well to replace Maggagnan with former Ravens scout Joe Douglas and also add a pair of former Baltimore front-office staffers in Chad Alexander and Phil Savage.

“I am not in their building but I respect the Jets organization,” DeCosta said, per Mike Preston of The Baltimore Sun. “They have added exceptional football guys in Joe and obviously, Chad. They have also added some talented guys who have played for us in the past. If you add some players and make a couple of good moves, you can turn things around quickly.

“Some teams that didn’t do well last year will come up and surprise people this season, and some who won last year will struggle this season. That’s the beauty of this league. That’s what makes the NFL fun.”

Douglas, hired as Jets general manager in early June, spent 15 years as a scout and player personnel assistant with the Ravens. He subsequently moved onto the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played an instrumental role in building a Super Bowl-winning roster as the team's vice president of personnel.
