Real Madrid has been dealt a crippling blow ahead of their Champions League Semifinals second-leg clash with Manchester City on Wednesday. Manager Carlo Ancelotti revealed star center-back David Alaba will be unavailable for the game as a result of an injury he picked up in the 4-3 defeat during the first leg in Manchester. Via The Athletic, Ancelotti confirmed Tuesday that Alaba would be sidelined for the game.

With Alaba unavailable for Los Blancos on Wednesday, Ancelotti revealed Nacho would step into the starting lineup. The 32-year-old came on as a replacement for Alaba when he went down with the injury, and he'll be called upon to replace him in the Starting XI for the second leg.

Alaba joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich on a free transfer over the summer. He's been crucial to Real Madrid's success in both La Liga and the Champions League this season, so his absence against the high-octane Manchester City offense will be a blow for Madrid.

“Alaba can’t play, he’s not ready for the game,” Ancelotti said via The Athletic. “It can be a long match, so it’s not as important who starts the match as who is going to finish it.”

Entering the second leg down 4-3 on aggregate scoring, Real Madrid will need to win the game by two goals in order to clinch a spot in the Champions League Final. Not having Alaba in the back-line will make that a far more difficult task for Madrid, who will lean upon Nacho and Eder Militao on Wednesday in hopes of slowing down Kevin De Bruyne and Co.
