The Red Dead Redemption Remaster and GTA IV Remaster have both been shelved by Rockstar Games after the GTA Trilogy Remastered debacle.

Sources close to the matter have told Kotaku (as Kotaku reports) that Rockstar decided to shelve their GTA IV Remaster and Red Dead Redemption Remaster projects. The decision came after the massive backlash by fans on the disastrous remaster of the GTA Trilogy, which was outsourced to external studio Grove Street Games. Rockstar has instead decided to focus its resources on its next title, which currently has no name but has been called GTA VI by both media and insiders.

In spite of this, it seems like GTA VI is still far away. Rockstar doesn't have a release window yet for the long-awaited next installment in the beloved series.

Rockstar has recently been at odds with its fans. Apart from the mess that the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition made, fans of Red Dead Redemption Online, which came out later than GTA Online, lament how content for their online game came out in way less frequency and with way less meat compared to that of GTA Online.

The last game both developed and published by Rockstar itself was Red Dead Redemption 2, so in spite of the disaster that was GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, Rockstar hasn't exactly produced a bad game to sully its reputation completely yet. If it's true that GTA 6 is being worked on internally, then there might be hope for GTA 6 and there might be hope in Rockstar. But if GTA 6 is treated the way GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition was – with a rushed release and through an external studio, then fans might have to worry a bit. We don't have complete details yet on GTA 6, but in spite of all the issues Rockstar face today, many fans still look forward to it.
