Boston Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello recently revealed pitching advice he received from Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez during the offseason, per MLB.com's Ian Browne.

“Yeah, great experience,” Bello said. “One of my favorite pitchers, and I've just enjoyed learning from him. He said, basically, ‘Just don't be afraid out there. Just throw what you're going to throw with conviction.'”

Bello also commented on which specific pitches Martinez focused on with him.

“He was more focusing on just the high fastball and slider,” Bello said. “The curveball is what I’ve been working on, a newer edition, and I’m looking forward to using it.”

Bello has a bright future with the Red Sox. Meanwhile, Pedro Martinez is a Red Sox legend. He is regarded as one of the better pitchers in the history of franchise, and certainly profiles as a terrific teacher for Brayan Bello.

The Red Sox envision Brayan Bello being a key part of their pitching staff. As a result, pitchers such as Tanner Houck could be made available via trade.

The Red Sox pitching staff will be interesting to follow in 2023. With Chris Sale set to return, Boston may be able to find success from a pitching perspective. With that being said, health will prove to be pivotal.

Nick Pivetta, Corey Kluber, James Paxton, and Garrett Whitlock are other rotation options. But as aforementioned, injuries could impact the pitching staff.

For now, Brayan Bello will look to utilize his Pedro Martinez teaching and put it into practice during Spring Training with the Red Sox.
