Washington Football Team running back Derrius Guice was arrested on Friday and charged with domestic violence, according to NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay.

Guice, 23, turned himself in to the Loudon County Sheriff's office.

Guice was charged with felony strangulation along with multiple counts of assault and battery and destruction of property, the Washington Post reports.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Washington has released Guice.

Washington, currently undergoing a public image makeover campaign amid scandals on multiple fronts, selected Guice out of LSU in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

A preseason ACL tear sidelined Derrius Guice for the entirely of his rookie campaign two years ago and he returned to make his debut in 2019, only appearing in five total games due to more injuries afflicting the Louisiana native.

Guice finally debuted in Week 1 last year against the Philadelphia Eagles but tore his left meniscus, causing him to miss eight weeks. He would compete for the soon-to-be formerly called Redskins three more weeks before sustaining an MCL sprain in Week 14, which put Guice on the season-ending injured reserve list.

Guice's legal blow-up is the latest scandal to rock Washington, which stripped the “Redskins” nickname from the official name earlier this offseason and introduced new uniforms without their longtime logo.

Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder, likewise, has been in hot water for multiple offenses, including blowback to finally changing the team's name when investors threatened to pull financial support to the franchise instead of listening to indigenous activists. Snyder is also facing heat for multiple female employees within the organization alleging persistent workplace discrimination and sexual harassment.

Given how the franchise has stated it intends to turn a new page and rehabilitate its image, how Washington handles Guice considering new domestic-violence charges could spell whether change is really happening or not.
