The Washington Redskins landed what they thought would be their franchise running back in the 2018 NFL Draft in Derrius Guice out of LSU in the second round. Guice missed his entire rookie season after suffering a torn ACL in the preseason. Coming into 2019, Washington named him the starting running back before being plagued with injuries again.

Here we are heading into Week 14, and Guice is finally making some noise in Washington. He has played four games this season, totaling 203 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The LSU product is averaging 5.5 yards per carry and has also been a weapon in the passing game.

In the Redskins' win over the Carolina Panthers, Guice finished with 10 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns. He broke off two massive runs, including throwing a nasty stiff arm on linebacker Shaq Thompson. He has shown signs of being a star in the league. The talented tailback will need his success to continue this week against the Green Bay Packers.

The Redskins will be underdogs for Week 14's bout the minute they step on to Lambeau Field. Washington has won two games in a row, but they are still considered to be one of the league's worst teams.

However, the reason Washington has bumped their win total up to three is in large part because of their run game. If nothing else, the Redskins should be able to run the ball effectively in this game.

Guice and veteran Adrian Peterson have developed a close relationship; it shows on the field. Both are contributing at a high level. Peterson has acted as a role model to Guice, and they have both spoken on the impact it has had. Against the Packers, both players will need to establish themselves early.

Green Bay is 25th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (123). Their defense has improved since the Redskins defeated them in Week 3 of the 2018 season, but there are still holes. The Packers added pass rushers who have had success this season. The secondary has played well, but the front seven has struggled in stopping the run.

It will be necessary for the Redskins heading in to get their run game going early. This will do two things. First, it will take the pressure off their rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Second, it will shorten the game and keep Aaron Rodgers off the field as much as possible.

Beating the Packers will be a tall task for the Redskins. If they want a chance, Guice will need to get going early and often.
