Going into 2018, Adrian Peterson looked cooked. He was coming off of a miserable 2017 campaign that he split between the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals, totaling just 529 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 3.4 yards per carry.
But then, Peterson signed with the Washington Redskins and went on to have a Renaissance season, racking up 1,042 yards and seven scores over the course of his first full 16-game campaign since 2015.
As a result, the Redskins awarded Peterson with a new contract, and now, the 32-year-old is ready to have an even better season in 2019.
“I feel like last year was just a decent season, like for me in my mind,” Peterson said, according to Kyle Stackpole of the Redskins' official team website. “People were like, ‘Wow, you did incredible, you had 1,000 yards.' And I'm like, ‘Man, I should have had 15, 16 hundred yards.'”
There was a time when those types of numbers were a regular occurrence for Peterson, as he made seven Pro Bowls during his 10-year run with the Minnesota Vikings, leading the league in rushing three times and racking up 2,097 yards one season.
“Just coming back and being able to produce and help this team win a championship,” Peterson said when asked about what he's focused on entering the upcoming season. “Be a great leader, not only by how I work but vocally as well. Just come in and have a way better season than I had last year when it comes to contributing and helping that run game be dominant, especially with me and Guice and [Chris Thompson] in the backfield. We should be able to do some amazing things.”
The Redskins won just seven games in 2018.
