The Washington Redskins have quite a few holes to fill this offseason. It will be easier for them to do just that in the upcoming NFL Draft thanks to some compensatory picks awarded by the league on Friday.

The Washington Redskins were awarded four compensatory picks in total (third, fifth, sixth, and seventh rounders).

These additions give the Redskins nine picks in total, including two in third round as well as two in both the fifth and seventh rounds. The only round they don't have a selection this year is the fourth.

Washington was awarded the most compensatory picks this year, along with the New England Patriots and the Arizona Cardinals. While it's always been exciting to be able to add extra picks to your total, compensatory picks have become even more valuable recently. The NFL allows teams to trade their compensatory picks, something that wasn't allowed just a few short years ago.

That means the Washington Redskins now have four extra assets they can feel free to use in any form. They can either use them to draft new prospects, or trade them. In trading them, they can trade up for a prospect they're particularly fond of, or they can trade the picks for veterans who could help the team immediately.

No matter how the Redskins decide to use these extra picks, it adds a lot of promise to the team. They now have a very solid nine picks to use in April. Good thing for the compensatory picks, because their original five is clearly a weak number. Now they can use the draft to restock a roster that has a few too many holes at the moment.
