Free agent left tackle Donald Penn and the Washington Redskins will conduct a meeting in hopes of reaching a contract agreement, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Penn, a 12-year veteran, spent the past five seasons with the Oakland Raiders, starting every game he played at left tackle. He played in all 16 games during his first three years with the Raiders and 14 in 2014, but was limited to just four games last season as the result of a groin injury. Oakland released the 36-year-old in March.

Star left tackle Trent Williams skipped minicamp in May and continued holding out of team activities throughout the remainder of the offseason. The Redskins opened training camp on Thursday without the seven-time Pro Bowler, who wants a new contract in part due to the Redskins' ability to cut him while incurring a far smaller cap hit than in previous seasons. Williams has two years and approximately $23 million remaining on the five-year contract he signed with Washington in 2015.

Washington opened training camp on Thursday with offseason addition Ereck Flowers lined up in Williams' place at left tackle. Flowers, the ninth overall pick of the 2015 draft, spent his first three seasons starting at left tackle for the New York Giants. He was released midway through last season amid highly-publicized struggles, subsequently landing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Redskins originally signed him to play left guard.

If Penn signs with Washington, don't be surprised if he makes Flowers' return to starting left tackle a temporary one – whether Williams returns or not.
