The highly-anticipated sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes is finally here, with a brand-new story, new worlds, new bosses, and brand-new experiences for players to go through either solo or with their friends. Here are all of the details you need to know about Remnant 2, including its release date, gameplay, story, and details.

Remnant 2 Release Date: July 25, 2023

Remnant 2 is coming out on July 25, 2023, with players who pre-purchased the Ultimate Edition gaining early access on July 23, 2023. The game is published by Gearbox Publishing and developed by Gunfire Games for the PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store, PS5, and the Xbox Series X.

Gameplay

Remnant 2 is a third-person shooter game with soulslike mechanics.

In this game, players take control of a character based on one of the game’s eleven archetypes (classes), which they can later diversify with a second archetype thanks to Remnant 2’s new multi-class system. The game allows players to explore the worlds either solo or with a squad of up to three players, with the host player retaining campaign progress, but loot is shared equally across all players in a session. Remnant 2 gameplay focuses on the game’s fast-paced combat that mixes both melee and shooting in a frenetic experience that will challenge players’ combat skills and coordination. The game’s boss fights are epic in scale and proportions, with massive health bars and multiple phases. Players will have to learn to coordinate with their squadmates properly to overcome them in multiplayer, and they provide a big challenge for those who are going at them alone. If the challenge is too tough, Remnant 2 offers four different gameplay difficulties.

Remnant 2’s archetype system gives players diversified gameplay experiences based on which archetypes they choose, allowing players a high degree of customizability in their builds, both in their personal build and the build of their squad. With eleven different classes, there is a total of 55 different combinations that players can use in the game.

Remnant 2’s gameplay loop involves players diving into different worlds for them to explore, scour for better equipment or crafting materials, and defeat the bosses within. Players will experience different kinds of worlds as the game deals players with a random world from a pool of worlds that they could go through. That means one player’s journey will be different from another player’s. This provides increased replayability and makes partying up with a friend experience their own version of the campaign journey that is likely different from yours.

While exploring the different worlds, players will gain progression points and gain talents that allow them to invest in different traits, which affects different kinds of stats for the player. Players will also earn skill points towards their chosen archetype, unlocking more abilities unique to that class. Players will eventually discover new trait cards which they can upgrade to gain more stats. Just like in other soulslike games, players’ progression in the worlds is bookmarked with checkpoints where they can revive fallen enemies, replenish ammo and health, and teleport to other checkpoints. However, if the player interacts with the checkpoint, non-boss enemies will respawn in the world.

Finally, the game allows players to re-experience worlds that they have already cleared in the campaign with the game’s adventure runs. These adventure runs allow players to rethread previously-completed scenarios and allow them to backtrack and find more loot. The adventure runs progression will not affect the progression of the campaign, but any loot gained from either modes will be available for both modes.

Story

Remnant 2 follows up on the story of Remnant: From the Ashes, but playing the first game is not a requirement to jump into this one. Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, players are among the few survivors on Earth that fight against the mysterious invader Root. Having found a human settlement called a Ward, the player finally has a place to call home, safe from the growing Roots of the Earth. However, they get dragged into another world-bending phenomenon, interacting with World Stones that allow them to traverse different worlds. These Worlds are in a state of instability, and players will have to travel to them to collect Strange Objects that will help in restoring balance in the worlds, and hopefully dismantle the Root that has been plaguing the Earth as well.

The game’s story progresses as the player completes the primary objectives in the Worlds they visit; However, each world also features its own story and lore, allowing players to delve deep into different substories within the game.
