Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will miss the Week 9 showdown against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs because of a positive COVID-19 test. Rodgers is apparently unvaccinated, meaning he'll miss at least 10 days.

There has been some hubbub surrounding Rodgers' vaccination status. He told reporters he was “immunized” before the season when asked about getting vaccinated, and that was taken as fact that he got vaccinated. ESPN's Rob Demovsky has more details on the potential source of the disconnect:

Rodgers, 37, petitioned the NFL to have an alternate treatment that he underwent before he returned to the Packers that would allow him to be considered the same as someone who received one of the approved vaccinations, sources told ESPN. After a lengthy back-and-forth, the league ruled that Rodgers would not get the same consideration and would be considered unvaccinated.

There has been some speculation that perhaps Rodgers got a shot in Canada when he traveled there with his fiancée, Shailene Woodley, but there's no confirmation on this:

Whatever Rodgers actually did, he's not considered vaccinated by the NFL's standards. This is causing headaches for the Packers for this week and potentially beyond since he's going to miss at least 10 days. Green Bay faces the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10 action, so the hope is he's back for that game.

For now, it will be Jordan Love against Mahomes this weekend. The Chiefs have been something of a dumpster fire of late, but losing a Hall of Fame quarterback is never good.
