Houston Rockets' Eric Gordon has started a fundraiser by donating $50,000 for the relief efforts for the Hurricane Dorian-ravaged Bahamas.

Per Jenny Dial Creech of the Houston Chronicle, Gordon asked for everyone's help in trying to rebuild the community. The Rockets guard actually spends the offseason in the Bahamas — where his mother is from. Several of his family members still live there as well.

“It’s heartbreaking to see what happened there,” Gordon said. “Some people lost everything. They need our help.”

“I just want to do whatever I can to give back,” he said. “They have a long road ahead of them.

“The Bahamas is a beautiful and wonderful place and what makes it so special is the people. And they need us right now.”

As of Wednesday, the official death toll was 50 according to several news outlets. However, the local government told reporters that more than 2,500 people are still missing.

As of this writing, the online fundraiser has raised some $55,000 from 63 donors. Gordon detailed that a number of his family members were affected by the hurricane.

“My first cousin, Deon, who resides on the island, just began his farming business and experienced the wrath of Hurricane Dorian. My great grandmother, Raine Archer Roberts, descended from Marsh Harbour, Abaco where most of the damages were done. My great grandfather, Enoch Pedro Roberts, is from Green Turtle Cay, Abaco.”
