Jalen Green has been largely disappointing in his rookie season. There were high expectations that he could quickly make an impact to the Houston Rockets roster under Stephen Silas, being hailed as the most NBA-ready prospect coming out of the G League. However, his first year has been filled with inconsistencies highlighted by his offensive woes.

However, Silas doesn't seem bothered by Green's abysmal offensive production that sees him shooting just 38.1 percent of his overall shots–including a 29.8 percent shooting clip from deep. For the Rockets head coach, what's important to him is the rookie is making improvements on other areas while his shots are not falling.

Green is still a rookie and has plenty of room to grow, so it is critical for Houston to see him take significant strides in other aspects of his game.

“Yeah, he's not making a bunch of shots right now, but he is improving on other parts of his game,” Silas said.

As Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic noted, one such area is his half-court reads. His ability to read and dissect defenses is undoubtedly improving, which should be crucial for him as he continue his development.

The Rockets are still bottom of the West with a 14-33 record, but their future looks bright with a young core showing tons of potential. Aside from Jalen Green, they have another rookie in Alperen Sengun who has shown flashes of brilliance in multiple games this 2021-22 campaign.

Kevin Porter Jr., behavior issues aside, is also proving to be a legitimate scorer and playmaker who could very well be a big part of the team's future should he be able to mature properly and avoid on- and off-court issues.
