Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook made his return to Oklahoma City in grand fashion, rocking a “zero regrets” shirt on his way into Chesapeake Energy Arena:

Westbrook–who is making his first appearance in OKC since being traded to the Rockets last July–spent 11 seasons with the Thunder, making eight All-Star teams and eight All-NBA teams over the course of his tenure. He was also named league MVP during the 2016-17 season after becoming the first player since Oscar Robertson (1962) to average a triple-double.

“Zero regrets” could refer to Westbrook's decision to ask for a trade. However, it is more likely the phrase refers to Westbrook's feelings abut his time with the Thunder.

Westbrook and Kevin Durant were at the forefront of a franchise that had quite a bit of adjusting to do at the start of the new decade. The Seattle Sonics moved to OKC and were renamed the Thunder ahead of the 2008-09 season in a rather stunning move, and the Thunder went just 23-59 in their first season.

However, the Thunder improved each season. They won 50 games during the 2009-10 season. Just one year later, Westbrook made his first All-Star team, and the Thunder reached the Western Conference Finals. Oklahoma City even made it to the NBA Finals in 2012.

Of course, the James Harden trade in the summer of 2012 would eventually lead to a number of near-misses for the Westbrook and Thunder, who never again reached the Finals.

Still, Westbrook showed undying allegiance. While Durant left the Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors in 2016, Westbrook re-signed in 2017.

But when it became clear the Thunder were looking to rebuild, Westbrook kindly asked for a way out, and general manager Sam Presti was willing to accommodate.

Through it all, Westbrook is still one of the most influential players in franchise history. Zero regrets.
