The Houston Rockets are reportedly interested in free agent center Tyson Chandler, per ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
Chandler last played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns during the 2018-19 NBA season. At 36 years old, he's an 18-year veteran and former Defensive Player of the Year, winning the honor for the 2011-12 season. A one-time All-Star, Chandler won a title with the Dirk Nowitzki-led Dallas Mavericks in 2011.
Chandler played with Rockets point guard Chris Paul in New Orleans during the duo's Hornets days. At 7-foot-1, Chandler is a ruthless rebounder and roll threat on screens with previous chemistry with Paul.
Chandler has averaged 8.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 1,134 career appearances, shooting 59.6% from the field and 64.5% from the free throw line.
Chandler was waived by the Suns in November 2018 and quickly found a new team with his hometown Lakers of Los Angeles. Chandler was selected with the second overall pick in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers and traded to the Chicago Bulls on the same night with Brian Skinner for Elton Brand.
The big man spent five seasons with the Bulls before being traded to the Hornets in 2006. He had short stints with Charlotte and Dallas before his tenure with New York. He played in 166 games for the Suns as a veteran mentor to the young team before being bought out.
The Rockets are searching for a backup center to Clint Capela.
