The Colorado Rockies' hot start to the season has cooled off. They are back under .500 and a Kris Bryant injury is once again going to make the former MVP inactive for a little bit.

Bryant has only played twice since the start of May and is now heading back to the IL because of a back injury, the team announced. The Rockies star stressed that there are no long-term concerns about his injury but that there is certainly something that needs to be fixed.

Bryant has recorded 17 hits in the 17 games he has played this season with a slash line of .270/.342/.333 with no home runs. He has not yet lived up to his massive new contract. Still, he has stood by his decision to sign with Colorado. The team's play has backed him up.

The Rockies were expected to be one of the very worst teams in baseball but have actually been pretty solid. Thanks to the MVP-level hitting from C.J. Cron and players like Yonathan Daza and Connor Joe, their offense has been good enough to get by and their pitching, led by Chad Kuhl, Kyle Freeland and Austin Gomber, has been decent.

Although Bryant has not lived up to expectations, the Rockies are closer to being competitive than previously thought. They may be last in the NL West but are just two games below the .500 threshold.
