The Colorado Rockies failed to beat the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. However, the club received bad news after their star prospect suffered a broken hand while making a circus catch.

Jordan Beck laid out to catch a line drive hit by Nick Castellanos. The Rockies star prospect landed awkwardly on his hand after making the play, according to ESPN. At the very least, Beck still held onto the ball to record the out.

“Beck landed hard on his glove hand while making a diving catch of Nick Castellanos' sinking liner for the final out in the top of the first inning. He was replaced in left field in the second by Jake Cave, who moved over from right field. Hunter Goodman entered the game and took over in right.”

It was quite the amazing play too. Jordan Beck went all out for that ball and snagged it before it could hit the ground. According to a catch probability bot on X, formerly known as Twitter, predicts the Rockies prospect only had an 11 percent chance to make the catch.

Jordan Beck lit it up during spring training. So much so the Rockies named him the Spring Training MVP. He then went on to dominate Triple-A before being called up and making his first MLB start of the season on April 30. However, the Rockies prospect has mainly struggled at the MLB level. He's currently hitting a measly .190 batting average with two home runs, and eight RBIs.

Considering the Rockies are at the bottom of the league and Beck is still a young prospect, we shouldn't expect the franchise to rush him back from injury. This does hinder his developmental process though, as he has the potential of becoming a true power hitter for this club. But the best thing for Jordan Beck right now is to heal his injured hand and return once he's fully recovered.

Rockies future outlook

Although we're still in the early stages of the 2024 season, the Rockies are not likely to make a playoff appearance. They're well behind in the National League West and would need a miracle just to get back into the mix. So, the future is what Colorado can look forward to.

The good news is the Rockies have several exciting prospects on the roster and in the farm system. As long as those guys continue to develop then Colorado should improve over the next several years. Young studs have recently taken over the MLB, as the Texas Rangers just won the World Series last year and other teams like the Baltimore Oriels and Milwaukee Brewers are knocking on the doorstep.

It could still be a few years before the Rockies make a true run for the playoffs. So, patience is key for this franchise right now. Nothing is guaranteed but Colorado's prospects have the potential of making the franchise competitive once again.
