Barcelona club officials have already found a replacement for midfielder Frenkie de Jong should he complete a blockbuster move to Manchester United in the coming months.

Gerard Romero noted on Wednesday that there is a “95 percent” chance that de Jong will sign with Manchester United for around a €70 million to €80 million fee over the upcoming summer transfer window. This move would then see the versatile midfielder reunite with soon-to-be Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who he featured under at Ajax.

As noted by a report from the Spanish-based outlet Sport, Barca plans to haul in Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler to replace de Jong if the Dutchman goes on to leave the club after three seasons.

There is a slight roadblock for Barca in the possible pursuit of Soler, who has one more season remaining on his contract at Valencia. For one, Soler would only sign at Barca if de Jong makes a move elsewhere. Still, Valencia aims to sell him for a transfer fee of around €35 million if he does not sign off on a new contract extension.

The report further added that Barcelona is also looking for a player who has a similar profile to that of veteran defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets. For the moment, the club has shortlisted AS Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni, Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi and Wolverhampton's Ruben Neves as options for this matter.

de Jong has four seasons left on his contract at Barca. While he has opened up before that he would like to stay put at Barca for years to come, he may very well be nearing the end of the road with the Catalan side.
