The Los Angeles Lakers have recently come to terms on a trade that would send their No. 28 pick in the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft and Danny Green to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for combo guard Dennis Schroder. Apparently, that deal appears to be the first of at least a few more as the Lakers are also looking to acquire Wesley Matthews from the Milwaukee Bucks as a potential replacement for Danny Green, as per Marc Stein.
Danny Green getting traded doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering his subpar performance in his first year with the Lakers.
He also mightily struggled all throughout the Lakers' postseason run where he ended the 2019-2020 season with averages of 8.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists through 68 appearances.
Despite his shooting slump on the field, Green still managed to appear in 68 games including 21 tilts in the postseason all as a starter for the Lakers. His potential departure could leave a hole in the team's starting five, which the Lakers seemingly think can be covered up by Wesley Matthews.
Already established himself as a steady veteran in the league in recent seasons, the former Marquette product tallied norms of 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game including 36.4% from beyond the arc in 67 appearances for the Bucks. Matthews, if successfully acquired by the Lakers, will hope to find his place and make an impact for the team especially in a veteran-laden roster.
After a successful championship run, the Purple and Gold are looking to reload their arsenal and prepare for a gritty title defense in the upcoming 2020-2021 NBA season.
