News for EA & DICE's poorly received military FPS title, Battlefield 2042, has not been very positive within the past several months, as many players have quickly abandoned the title due to lackluster gameplay that goes against everything the series has stood for up until this point, and the few updates that have been delivered to the game have not done much to encourage players to return.

But now, a report from Xfire has been released, with claims that a new Battlefield title is already in pre-production. The article states that many of the new features and changes that have been added to Battlefield 2042 will most likely be reverted. While it wasn't specifically stated, many users suggest that these features could be referring to the removal of specialists and the downsizing of 128 players back to 64 players.

Previously, there have been reports that the next Battlefield title would have been a battle royale game, as the specialists introduced in Battlefield 2042 would have been used as their brand of “Heroes”, similar to other Battle Royales such as Apex Legends. This plan has more than likely been scrapped, as the negative reaction to the report has most likely caused EA & Dice to backtrack on this decision.

Many fans have reacted to the news with a mostly negative tone, as many players have expressed displeasure for EA & DICE, with statements such as ‘Will Battlefield 2042 be abandoned?” and “They should stay committed to fixing Battlefield 2042 before they can even consider development for a new game.” At the moment, DICE has at least four specialists, four battle passes, and one map to release as part of their current development commitments, but once those updates have been added, Battlefield 2042 will more than likely become abandoned, as public interest for the game simply shows no signs of improving.
