The contract extension saga between Robert Lewandowski and Bayern Munich has taken turns after another, and the Polish striker has reportedly made a notable call regarding this matter.

As noted by the German-based outlet Sport 1 (via Sport), Lewandowski has notified Bayern Munich of his intention to not join the side for its preseason schedule, which will kick off on July 8.

The Polish international still prefers to leave the Bundesliga powerhouse over the upcoming summer transfer window, even as he currently has one more season on his contract.

Lewandowski made headlines after Bayern Munich’s league season finale against VfL Wolfsburg, as he confirmed that he does not aspire to sign a new contract with the club. He later went on to declare during a press conference with the Poland national team last week that his run with the reigning Bundesliga champions has come to an “end.”

On the other hand, Bayern Munich remains stern in its ambition to keep Lewandowski at the club. For one, club president Herbert Hainer recently noted that he is confident the reigning European Golden Boot winner “will play” for the side next season.

Amid the contract dilemma between both sides, Barcelona has continued to be a rumored destination for the forward. Barca manager Xavi added last month that the veteran goal-scorer is an “option” for the Catalan side heading into the summer window.

Lewandowski is currently with Poland for its UEFA Nations League group stage schedule in June, which includes a clash with the Netherlands national team on June 11.
